Finally – We got new tires for our car!

I don’t know what it is with cars and the luck we have. It seems to always be bad.
The first car we had was the ’86 Chevy Nova – John put a rod through the engine and we had to get a new car.
Then it was the light blue 2001 Ford Focus. I loved that car. But then it got smashed and the insurance company totaled it out. I’m still getting sued for that one.
Forcing us to purchase the Gold 2003 Mazda Protégé. This car. Yeah it was nice. It went fast, but it always had this rattle in the back seat that was starting to drive me crazy after driving it for 2 years, and as luck would have it some idiot on her cell phone rear-ended us (me, my husband, and his pregnant little sister with a brain tumor in the back seat.) Now this particular car accident was the most enraging of all to date. We had just replaced a timing belt, the tires, the breaks and not even 30 days before the accident I had just forked over $170 to register the stupid thing. And did the Insurance Company payout for these things. No.
Leading to the current automobile – 2006 Superman Blue Ford Focus – This car should be awesome. It was totally new when we bought it other then one previous owner which I believe was a rental company. And being the young uneducated people that we are we just bought the car as is and didn’t request new anything before driving it off the lot. Which we now know better and will do better in the future.
Now this car has had the shakes from day one. When you hit 60 miles per hour the hole thing rattled, if you drove just over 60 or just below 60 then the car would ride okay – Then there were the squeaky breaks. This is annoying. It wasn’t really bad for the first few months we had the car, but then we drove it to California and apparently the breaks did not like the humidity.
Earlier this summer at the routine oil change we were informed that the breaks are warped and they need to be replaced. It really was no surprise, but frustrating none-the-less. AND . . . The tires are almost completely bald and they also need to be replaced. This was less then good news and at the moment we had no money so we listened the mechanic’s advise but drove away without any further repairs.
So to make this long story no so long - - after all the rain the past couple of weeks and skidding to a stop several times we decided that new tires were a must have (especially if we’re driving to Washington next month) so I closed out my 401K from my last job and... Ta Da! New Tires. The guy at Big-O laughed at us when we pulled in and told us we needed new tires (duh that's what we came for.) I feel so much safer driving now, like I’m not going to die in the rain or snow. It’s a relief to have that done. The car doesn’t shake anymore either. That’s so nice.

Now if we could just work on the breaks I think we’ll be good to go.
