Mister West Boycott

101.9 The End fired Mister West. As a personal friend of a Personal friend of Mister the story about a contract dispute is a load of crap. Citadel Broadcasting FIRED him.

Please, if you are a listener to 101.9 I am asking you to email the management and demand Mister West back. (sure in all reality it probably wont get him his job back, but the station needs to know what the listeners think.)
I'm not listening to 101.9 anymore. Mister West was my reason to listen in the mornings.
I cc some of you on an email to the station. Please if you have a heart email them too and then stop listening.

The station sucks anyway.

Email Complaints to:
parker@1019theend.com
chunga@1019theend.com
chelsea@1019theend.com
cort@1019theend.com
eric.hauenstein@citcomm.com

Below is a copy of the email I sent.

As a listener to 101.9 the End for at least the past 10 years I really was listening to Mister West. I cannot believe that the station fired him! Contract dispute my butt. He was the funny part of the morning show and I enjoyed listening to him more then any other DJ on that radio station. Mister West was the reliable morning DJ that was always there when the show starts at 6:00 am when the self absorbed Chunga waltz's in at 6:15 or later EVERY Day.
101.9 has gone down hill and I honestly don't enjoy listening to it anymore because of the low quality of DJ's that are provided. Parker's show sucks and I don't listen to the radio in the afternoons anymore, and now I have no reason to listen in the mornings.
I'm no longer a listener of 101.9. I will also be letting everyone I know to stop listening as well.
So long 101.9. This is the End.

Mister West Boycott Update 12/12/2007:

The following is an email we received from our personal friend who is a personal friend of Mister West:

"Hi. Please let your people know that I talked to Mister. West today and he's doing well. He has good things ahead (which I can't disclose at the moment) but, he expressed his gratitude to everyone who has sent emails to the people at The End. He and I are going to lunch next week and I'll have more info then."

According to our source Mister West received a letter in the mail a few weeks ago stating that his contract was renewed and all was well, but a week and a half ago he was called into the bosses office on a Friday after the show and was told they had decided NOT to renew his contract and then had him escorted out of the building. They gave him no reasons and just told him he was done and threw him out.

Contract negotiations... no. that sounds like people at the station didn't want him anymore so they just got rid of him. In my book, that chalks up to being fired.

Mister West Boycott Update 12/29/2007

Our "source" has failed us.
He has yet to go out to lunch with his friend Mister. So there is no new News.
I guess even unemployed people are busy during the holidays :)

I have not listened to 101.9 since I first heard the news. I now bounce between X96 in the mornings, 107.9 The Mix and My 99.5 - and I am ever thankful for the iPod I got for Christmas.

The Final Word - 1/14/08

To all those who have called me pathetic, sworn at me, said horrible things to me on MY blog -

Who truly is the one who is more pathetic? Me who just happens to have personal connections with a radio personality who I really enjoyed listening to, or the person who didn't like him anyway and just posts on this "random, pathetic" blog because they have nothing better to do with their time then to tell others how stupid they are.
This is just ONE blog entry in a blog of hundreds of entries. It just happens that this blog entry is a source of information for those who want to know. So NO, I'm not going to delete it, I'll leave it where it is because it pleases me. Perhaps I enjoy feeding the frenzy, perhaps I like the fact that MY blog gets hundreds of hits a day with people looking for information about a DJ "that no one really liked anyway." Perhaps my month of December had nothing more interesting going on so Mister was something to keep me and others entertained.
To the uneducated swine and computer nerds - Why not turn your computer off once in a while and go outside and learn some social skills, for most that is a skill that is severely lacking. Get a dictionary or a thesaurus and learn new and creative ways to state your opinion, in most civilized societies replacing punctuation with "fuck" is not acceptable.

So go ahead, continue posting to this blog entry, I'll read and delete whom ever I chose and I'll continue to be a fan of Mister West. This may be the last anyone hears from me on this post. I'm tired of being called names by those who don't even know me.

The End.

I know I said I wasn't going to give any further updates on this post, but as of last night and a PERSONAL phone call I received from Mister Brian West himself...

He wanted to thank me for my support and for all of you who have shown him your luv. He is still pretty angry over the whole thing (as is to be expected) and he has just recently looked at this blog.

He will be either sending me an email this weekend Thanking all of you himself, OR he may be posting a comment himself.

So hold your breath and wait for the man himself to speak to us from beyond. . .

2/21/08
I never received an email from Mister like he had promised. Unless it ended up in my SPAM folder and got deleted - if so, I'm sorry and Mister you can email me again.

If anyone is wondering and doesn't want to read through the comments, Mister West is in fact an employee of The Deseret News now.

2/22/08 - this is part of an article that was published in the A&E section of the Deseret News Friday February 22, 2002. Thanks the the anonymous commenter who pointed it out to my attention :)
http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695255053,00.html

Mister West," the former KENZ ("The End," FM-101.9) morning personality, now works for the Deseret Morning News as an assistant city editor.

"It was the last thing in the world I expected," Mister said of his dismissal after more than eight years at KENZ.

The show had been consistently in the top five of the 25 morning shows in the market.

"They negotiated with Chunga and he signed a new deal," Mister said. "I was fully intending to receive a contract offer when my general manager sat me down and told me that morning's show had been my last. They offered no severance; just had someone escort me from the building. I was shocked. He refused to give me any reason for the decision other than to say it was nothing I had or hadn't done. It wasn't until days later that I learned from others that Chunga had insisted on the change as part of his contract talks."

Mister said he has no idea why this happened, as the two had worked together well for more than 15 years and he considered him a friend.

"Chunga is easily the funniest person I've ever met. My job was to make him and the show better, and I know I helped do that."

Citadel Broadcasting, the owner of KENZ, had no comment on Mister's dismissal, because it is company policy not to discuss personnel issues. Because of that corporate policy, neither Chunga nor the station manager would comment.

Mister said he'd like to at least return to radio part-time one day, though Citadel is holding him to a six-month "no-compete" clause.

Mister's radio career spans 20 years, with work also at KCGL, KJQN, KFMY and KXRK. Before working at KENZ, he was employed as a reporter and an editor at the Deseret Morning News.

2/25/08 -

I was informed that my blog was talked about on What's Happening Hot Stuff this morning. Apparently I have been labled as a "Fat chick from Mister's Ward" .... FYI - I'm NOT in Mister's ward. Thank you very much.

I read your e-mails and I went ahead and wrote the station like you asked. Truthfully, I have never listened to The End, but I told them I did. I like Country music. Well, I wish Mister West the best. I am sure if he is really that good, he will find another station to work at.

I was listening yesterday morning for some odd reason (I have satelite radio and love it) and noticed that Mr. West was gone. Why was he fired?

I personally wish they would fire Chelsea. I stopped listening when she came into the limelight. I find her irritating.

Anonymous said...

may i suggest "Radio From Hell w/Kerry, Bill & Gina" on X-96 in the morning...they are much better than the end guys and they make you think too!....and they never play music.

Ick! Radio From Hell is right. I hate X-96 and believe me, I have listened to it a few times this week, but I just hate them.

Thank you Miss Lizzy for posting this! I've been cramming for finals over the past few weeks, and really only started listening to 101.9 again this morning... finding it strange that they called it "The Chunga Show" with no mention of Mister anywhere.

Seriously, there was a chemistry with those two; together, they're dynamite, but separately, they're about par with most other radio shows.

I found myself somewhat dreading Chunga's departure at the end of the contract, but never expected them to fire Mr. West.

*sigh* Time to quit listening to 101.9 The End.

Do me a favor, will you? If you can relay a message to Mr. West, tell him he's sorely missed. The show has all of the pizazz of a flat Coke now.

Thank's N I have passed your message on to my "source" and it'll get where it belongs.

Subject: Mr. West

I just wanted to voice my opinion on the Outrageous decision that you had made as a Station. I have been listening to the station since it started on the air and have found that Mr. West was the staple of the show he's the one who I mainly would listen too, I know Chunga very well I've known him for years since High School and have found him to be arrogant and big headed at times. Mr. West is a very reliable employee who was always there even when Chunga was not, even on time, I don't like to be to work on time either but step up to the plate and be a man.
As for firing Mr. West it was low I know that by doing a mass email to all of my friends and a snowball effect we can shut the station down by not having the money to run it we know how it works and I will NOT pay for Chunga's expensive car. so when you reply you can reply with the canned response to make you feel good.

I talked to Mr. West yesterday, he's doing well. He expressed his appreciation to all who have raised their voice in protest of his dismissal from KENZ. The management gave him no explaination and physically escorted him from the building on the late morning of December 6, 2007.
I'm having lunch with him next week and will keep all posted on the latest.

I'm so MAD they fired Mr. West! I also wish they'd fire Chelsea, too. Why would she find it so great to be called a drunk and whore on the show? She's degrading to women.

I just sent this email a few minutes ago to the 'email complaint list' after reading about Mister on Wikipedia:

Good afternoon, all,

After years of wading through the mire of morning radio shows available on the FM airwaves in the greater Salt Lake valley I finally settled in rather comfortably last year with Chunga and Mister. I drove to work this week as I always do with my dial set to 101.9 and unknowingly figured that Mister was out of town for the holidays or something of the like. However, I hadn't heard a breath uttered regarding his whereabouts and decided to investigate myself through our wonderfully informative though sometimes fallible world wide web.

Now, background dealings regarding contract renewals are not entirely foreign to me though I understand that they are each as different as snowflakes. I don't presume to know what turn of events occurred between the management of KENZ and Mister West to have come to the conclusion not to renew his contract, all I know is that I feel a great misstep in the flow of what used to be a great show. Though Cort and Chelsea are putting forth an obvious effort on their part there are likely few personalities capable of playing so well off of Chunga's overbearing, though still strangely likeable one. Mister was like the patient parent to Chunga's excitable, childlike persona. Believe me, I adore both. Whether that pairing was accidental or the result of a calculated attempt - it worked brilliantly.

You all should know straight from the typed voice of your audience that no news sends a message of bad news. I have spent more time in the landscape of corporate America than I ever have a desire to again and have seen what executive management types like to think they know about the little guy. I assume a great deal to say this of any of you, however, as I have said - silence does not mean you are not telling us a great deal. If this separation was on good terms I don't believe there would be any reason for such a shroud of secrecy. For loyalty to be repaid to us so poorly is disappointing.

Change happens. Only fools try to fight or deny that. I don't expect any campaign of any type to change things back to how they were. I only wish to convey that I am saddened by the loss of Mister regardless of the circumstance and that the station's lack of communication only salts the slug.

Sincerely,
Liz
Farmington, UT

Liz you said it all! I have been steaming about this all week! It drives me crazy that there has been so much silence on the air. Only today have I heard some mention of missing Mister West via 'What's happening hot-stuff' callers. As a family we were BIG listeners of the show! My children have practically grown up with Chunga and Mister! Every day before school while eating breakfast, Chunga and Mister joined us in the kitchen! They were a fabulous team and why management did not recognize this is beyond me! Why ruin a good thing? Together they were like the family we never met!

Max said...

I was surprised just like all of you were. I did know that Mister's contract was comming up again soon. The only reason I can think that they decided to not renew it was because its older. They might be trying for a younger audience. That doesn't make sense either. I don't think it well do any good to e-mail any of the hosts of the show. It wasn't there choice, and if it was I'm sure they would want Mister to stay.
What does surprise me is that Chunga said that the management was still considering highering another person for the show. Which didn't make any sense!!!!!

I just sent this email:

To whom it may concern:

You will not get a rant from me, just a big question mark as to why Mister's contract was not re-newed. Mister totally makes the morning show and he was the only reason why I tuned in. Between his interesting comments, witty remarks, and quirky take on things he's the reason why the show was good. Perhaps this is an issue of loyalty to Chunga, and thats not a bad thing, I'm just baffled as to why you felt Mister was not at least a key ingredient to the success of the show, if not the key ingredient. I'm sure there were plenty of politics and otherwise behind the scenes, but this seems very much like a case of in the words of NiN, "Will you bite the hand that feeds you?".

At this point, perhaps the only thing that will save you is the dearth of SLC originated morning shows. By my count it went from 1 to 0 and I'll be going to the Bob and Tom show full time now. I doubt it means much to you to lose one listener in the form of myself, but I just wanted to provide feedback because of the incredelous nature of this move.

Just thought I would let you know that firing Mister West was a bad
idea in my opinion.

Does anyone have an update on Mister West? What a shame! I too e-mailed Eric at the station, but of course got no response. I'm sure Mister doesn't want to go back to the station after the way he was treated, but it would be great to hear him on another station. Sad to say, there isn't much else out there to listen to, and 101.9 is off my preset. I used to listen all day, and have for over 10 years. Keep us updated from your "source"... would love to hear how Mister is, and see if we could e-mail him personally.

If Parker's arrival to 101.9 The End was the death knell for the station, then the letting go of Mister West is undeniably the confirmation of it. For those of us that listen between the lines, we saw it coming on one of Parker’s first days on the air when he started trashing Artie. Not cool flit boy, not cool…

Change is inevitable, but this one hurts, and it is very significant when looking at the history of SLC alternative music stations. Salt Lake City has always had an unusually large group of alternative music lovers for a city that has typically been behind the times in other things. Mr. West has been an integral part of this history. I've listened to every permutation of this station since the KCGL days. KCGL, KRP, KRPN, KJQ, X96. I was at the Berlin concert the day KCGL died and Biff and the DJs got on the stage to say they'd be back. This was back when 99% of the world hadn’t heard of U2, and the word “alternative” hadn’t been coined to describe our music – New Order, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Thompson Twins, Yaz. I remember being crouched over the radio on Sunday nights when they could only afford a few hours of air time in the evening on some random station. But eventually, when the rest of the world clued in and alternative music became not so alternative, a lot of the core people came back and prospered. Infighting, feuds, and competing stations aside, there is a core group of people gave us music that for a number of years you couldn’t find in any store. Many of these core people have faded into different markets/professions, but some have continued to exist (at least up until recently) at 101.9 The End and X96. No station has ever lived up to KCGL standards, but then again, who could? The bar was set pretty high because the commercials were few and the DJs were playing the music they loved. They were gods to us; it was real radio. But you've got to make money to stay in the game, right?

Mr. West, you are missed. Together, you and Chunga had at times wit and timing that could make me laugh out loud. The Saturday Night Cold Case days were some of the best radio I've ever heard. We were always listening to you when we were out on the town. It was as good as Bill and Kerry's original KJQ morning show when Brett (Chunga) was their lackey. No wonder he has such an inferiority complex going. Unfortunately, without you, Chunga's act is weak, repetitive, juvenile and boring. He's just not funny anymore. I find his unfounded arrogance and name dropping too much to bear without you to balance it out like only you can. His acting is laughable (good luck with that endeavor there Brett, maybe you'll land a gig at a nice dinner theater somewhere if you really focus your boundless talent) and his lack of sincere self-deprecation in the face of his arrogance is his undoing. Unfortunately guys, my kids and I had to stop listening to you months ago when Chelsea started chiming in. She's a disgusting excuse for a woman and is witless. Chelsea, if are reading this, if you can in fact read, go DJ at a strip club where you belong. Actually, you and I both know you're not even qualified for that. I've started to listen to X96 exclusively now instead of switching back and forth during commercials. Gina, Bill, Kerry, thanks for letting me listen.

Parker, I find it hard to even waste my breath on you. Your ignorance and disrespect for the unique culture and history of SLC alternative music listeners is unforgivable. Will you please just run the station into the ground as quickly as possible so SLC can be done with you? Artie is 10 times the DJ and talent you'll ever be, because you're a no talent poseur. Artie, I'm sorry about your Mom my friend. May she rest in peace.

Mr., is there bad blood between you and x96, or could you maybe land a gig over there? Todd, Kerry, Bill, anyone listening over there? Isn't there a job over there for Mr. West?

I suggest that rather than anyone wasting time on an email campaign aimed at 101.9 that will fall on deaf ears on a sinking ship, maybe we can appeal to X96 to carve out a niche for one of their own. Anyone agree?

Dj s come and go, radio stations come and go, sometimes change format, quit crying and complaining. It is done and over and never going to be the same again. Don't blame other DJs or local management. Mister had a contract with a huge company, who has the right to not re-new anyone at anytime. Don't blame the show just move on and accept facts. Remember your boss could fire you tomorrow and wouldn't have to give a reason why. A radio is just like your job change happens all the time.

Judging from the comment from "anonymous" I think Chunga or Parker is checking this blog out!

If Mister is happy at D-News-great, but would love to hear him on another station. Good Luck Mister-your leaving KENZ was "The End"

By the way-anyone hear Chunga ranting this morning-I'm not listening anymore, but I heard he was on quite a rant this morning about people sending him "mean" e-mails. Great job everybody

Yes, my "Source" is legit and he does know that Mister's real name is Brian, they have been friends since middle school and just because you don't talk to someone on a daily basis doesn't make you a bad friend. We as friends have just chosen not to use real names just like I'm not going to go around advertising that Chunga's name is Brett Smith and that he is a jerk.

So there.

I'm glad that someone knows where Mister West is now working. My "Source" knew what was going on he was just not at liberty to discuss with us because at the time the job for the Deseret News was still pending.

Congratulations on the new job Mister West. Good Luck!

I had forwarded this blog entry to the Source and in turn I hope that he has shared this with Mister so he can see what his fans are saying. And it really is a shame that he isn't on the radio anymore I miss his voice. :)

Thanks to everyone who has sent in a nasty email to the station. We may not change their minds, but we can change some perspective.

Again, Thank You -
The Blog Owner & Mister West Fan

You are right-x96 should have Mister West. Maybe there is a spot for him there. Good for him being back at Deseret News, but radio is lacking without him. Also, your comments about Chelsea-couldn't have said it better! When she came on, it all went downhill! She must have slept with alot of people to still be on the air. UUGH!

Yeah, bosses can fire you when ever and don't owe any one an explanation. But I can tell you when I fire someone especially in a service industry I have to give my clients some explanation for the change in who is servicing their account.

I am an advertiser with the end, and a listener, and I would like some explanation as to why something I was very happy with as a customer and fan was changed. I can tell you this, until that happens to my satisfaction no more of the advertising dollars in my control will be spent with Citadel. More advertisers should follow suit. They obviously could care less what the listeners think, let's hit them where it hurts until they do hear us.

I've enjoyed reading & keeping up with this blog! I happened to listen to 'What's Happening Hot Stuff' yesterday morning. Chunga actually let through 2 calls questioning the disappearance of Mister West. The first caller had obviously been out of town over the holidays. Chunga went through this explanation which he stated would be the last time (like he did when Casey left). He mentioned that his contract wasn’t renewed, the station had shed many tears over this off-air, it’s been hard for all of them, Mister is the closet thing to family…blah, blah, blah. The next caller wanted to know what we all could still do to complain or get him back. Chunga told him that Mister was NEVER COMING BACK, that we all need to get over it, and we are spending too much time worrying about this so it’s time to get a hobby. Then the mentioning of the BLOG came about. I had to chuckle because he obviously knows about it and acknowledged receiving many emails (he says they aren‘t reading them anymore…whatever). He says people have been mean, threatened his staff, and written stuff on his IMDB page. The caller tried to tell Chunga (not these exact words) that as listeners we should be able to talk on the air about what we feel and think about this. Chunga said that he was going to get in big trouble for even talking about it. He said something about spending too much air time venting so now he would have to explain to management later in the morning what had happened and why. It just ticks me off because obviously the listeners are mad and disappointed about all this. The station acts like nothing happened and expects everyone to move on. I don’t think people have….Chunga knows this and told listeners yesterday that if they don’t want to listen any more then change the station. Maybe we all should…for good!!!!

Mister West's on-air appeal is undeniable. He has been loved by the listening audience for more than 20 years. To fire him, it took a person who did not know him well enough, did not know what a loyal and exemplary employee he is, and did not realize what his presence means to the station.

The new program director comes from the east coast market, obviously knowing nothing about the Utah market or the station's beginnings. Or if he does know, he does not care. The station's playlist is dwindling into something unrecognizable to the loyal listeners of the past, and that's going to cost him as a program director. When you take on a job in a new market, you'd better know your audience.

This audience liked Mister West.

The important revolution which took place with Super-107 and then with KCGL can only be honored by the people who still believe in it. Let's hope they're still out there right now, setting up the next incarnation of what we all loved - our "Modern Music"

If i remember correctly Mr. West replaced Chunga's old partner Marcus. Marcus was fired for participating in an orgy while aboard one of the listner cruises offered through the station. The group went on a vacation and when they returned Marcus was gone and Chunga was scrambling to explain what happened. Mr. West came in and helped the station during an obviously humiliating moment. I recall Chunga mentioning that Mr. gave up a lucrative and presitgious position with a local newspaper to join the morning show. I realize time has passed since that incident and loyalty means little but the End has a funny way of paying back someone who helped them out of a jam. Shame on them.

This really sucks.

I really loved 1019 the end, so much that I streamed the show in the mornings on the internet. I was pretty confused when Mister just up and disappeared. The duo rocked. This is really, really disappointing.

What were they thinking?

Do you guys know what happened to Stevie Oldfield? (don't know how to spell his name). I must have missed something there.

Anonymous said...

Chunga fired Oldfield (or so he said on-air). I remember a while back where Chunga and Mister tried getting Oldfield on the phone (like they did every morning) to which they were not successful. It was like Stevie was ignoring him but who knows? Chunga got tired of it and fired him. I swear Chunga trashed him right on the air about that.

I always liked The Chunga and Mister Show best when Chunga was gone filming something. Chelsea and Cort were bad enough with Mister there. I can't stand listening to them without Chunga and without Mister Chunga is intolerable. We need to email sponsers not the end. Let them know we won't be listening anymore so they shouldn't advertise anymore. Money is what will sink the ship.

stumbled on this blog... seriously, people it is the entertainment biz, this kind of thing happens all the time and there is nothing you can do about it, i manage several industry clients that have been in similar situations, the best thing to do is move on, i dont want to sound harsh its just the facts

has anyone been paying attention to what the end has been doing over the last year? the salt lake market is growing and the end has been bringing in staff from larger more successful markets, you may not like it but they are a far more experienced staff now, which will mean better shows, music, give-aways, etc. i listen to the radio to hear new music and the end has been a great source for new artists that are putting out fantastic material, thank you to the DJs with balls enough to play it first.
misters show sucked he played safe selections and old classics, i think he is gone because he didnt want to be a team player,
good job 101.9

Anonymous said...

Actually, the only "more experienced" person they've brought in was Micheal "Parker" Peer. Mister has tons more experience than Parker. Biff, who moved on to work with his wife at the candy shop, had more experience than Parker. So really, all they've done is get younger and cheaper. Remember when they had actual night people with experience? Remember when there were more than 3 solid spots plus a supporting cast?

Also, the end always has played new stuff. Always. But people enjoy the old stuff too. If anything I bet Mister's hands were tied because he couldn't break out some of that good obscure 80's stuff during the day.

You're killing me...

First companies do listen to customer complaints. Look at how the toy companies responded to the possibility of lead paint in toys. Do you want more examples?

Second: Just because a few of these people have come from larger markets doesn't mean they are more experienced and or more successful. You don't leave a larger market to come to a smaller and expect to make more money. The reason they went out of market is a lack of skill sets in Salt Lake Valley. They had to find someone with radio experience to fill positions. Just because Parker is from Phoenix and a larger mareket doesn't make him a genius he is still an idiot.

I think the station has drifted from its roots and not in a good direction. If you are truely looking for new music and a wide variety try Sirius, I have been a subscriber for a year and a half and I rarely listen to local stations unless I need local weather and traffic. I did tune in more often when Stevie Oldfield was on but since he is gone whats the point.

It turns out the reason the End had been so successful is due to the classics. I think a lot of the new stuff is played to death.

I personally thought Mister West was boring. He was just your run of the mill news guy. He sounds like every other stale news guy. Nothing special or unique. I don't get what the big deal is about him being gone. The show doesn't sound any different to me. I dare say it sounds better with him gone. Much more personality. I think if you "bloggers" could look past your phony "devastation" you'd see that it's not really that big of deal. This stuff happens all the time. Life goes on.

first of all. watch your language.
Second - I'm not pathetic, jobless or obsessed. I simply liked what I liked and am disapointed that they ruined a good thing.
There are plenty of people out there who didn't like Mister - but there are a lot out there who did and that's who we are.
That doesn't give anyone the right to tear others down and fault them for trying.
Maybe YOU should get a life and learn that people are different and we are all entitled to our own opinions.
And I have not listened since day one of my boycott... sure there is nothing else on the radio to listen to but I still scan the dial in a futile effort.

Ok Chunga Parker and Chelsea quit posting Anonymously

it sounds like norm church is going to join the show he always did a good job when he was on before, give the show a chance with a new format, dont be shocked to see a Chunga-Church show, a boycott isnt going to do your entertainment any good. The show is still alot better than the other crap out there.
mister was and is a good guy he will be fine.

YES, YOU'RE RIGHT. AND YOU SHOULD MAYBE TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE. "That doesn't give anyone the right to tear others down". SO STOP TEARING DOWN RADIO DJS THAT YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. THEY'RE PROBABLY GOOD PEOPLE, TOO. THEY'RE JUST DOING THEIR JOBS. SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON DOING YOUR JOB AND LET THEM DO THEIRS. MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE. AND ONCE AGAIN......... I-POD!

Hello people ........what part of PARKER coming on board have you missed. I saw the writing on the wall the second the hired hi. Sad, but true, Do you not realized the station has changed!!!!!!!!

It is not the same old the end anymore. ( big sigh)

Parker is the main reason! I stopped listening in the afternoon because of his musical selection and totally cocky attitude. I think he is the very worst thing to happen to the end period.

I was afraid when he came they would do something to the morning show. I like Court, but I miss the Casey days a lot (catch him on Ch 2 in the morning ... it's great!!!)
Now with Mister gone and it's just Chunga and Court and Chelsea (they try, but they just don't have it.) They're not bad as third or better fourth level dj host. They just don't cut it as first or second level hosts. And Chunga needs Mister to laugh at all of his inpersenations. (which even with all of his acting aren't all that good.)

Make the switch there are plenty radio stations to choose from.

Oh, I agree PARKER SUCKS!!!!

I think he digs that, but I don't dig him I to have stopped listening. He is awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on everyone...Mr was a news guy to me. Apparently once a news guy always a news guy. It sounds like he is back in his element at the DNews...congrats Mr!
He was an arrogant ASS to me once at DV8 years ago but I kept listening. I was listening to Chunga's entertainment and Mr's filler.

I was sad when Chunga left X96 but the show went on 1075. I was sad about Marcus but the show went on to Mr. I am sad about Mr but the show WILL GO ON. I think Chunga is FUNNY. If he is still there then I will continue to listen.

BTW...I like the way 101.9 has evolved. Someone shoot me if I become and remain old and stail.

PS- Did Marcus really have an orgy? My hell, do people REALLY do that?

I think the owner of this blog should thank this Mr guy.
By the looks of the blog and content she should pay him a royalty for the new popularity of her life/his life.
Maybe SHE is the one who negotiated Mr's contract to give her something to do?
I tuned in this morning to see what all the fuss was about, sounds fine to me.

That should be interesting (ha ha ha) didnt he do the coldcase with Chunga AND Mr for a while?

I’m just an anonymous person who stumbled upon this blog as the result of a series of random events. I won’t bore you with the details, just know that I am a totally random person and not Jimmy Chunga or a KENZ intern. Anyway, upon reading the content of this blog, I realized I had some important insight to offer. I’m not going to beat around the bush; I am a very important figure in what I like to call “the biz.” You’ve probably heard of some of my work. Last year, for example, I was involved in the straight-to-Seagull-book mega-hits “The Visiting Teachers 3,” “Labor Day In Logan,” and “Snake-Handling Pentecostals At Our Picnic.” I think such notable credentials speak for themselves. So let just say, as an insider in the biz, that eliminating your coworkers for one vain reason or another is not only acceptable, its expected. That’s just the nature of the biz. So you people really ought to stop complaining and just deal.

Anonymous said...

I work for Citadel Broadcasting, so I know what I’m talking about. I just want to say how totally ridiculous you people are. Jimmy Chunga is not only a brilliant actor of stage and screen, not only a comic genius; he is lifeblood of the radio industry. Simply put, if not for Jimmy Chunga the industry would collapse. I mean, the material he plagiarizes from the Simpsons alone has been so groundbreaking as to revolutionize everything we do. As for Mister West, well it doesn’t require a pair of magic ears to know that he was stale and unoriginal, and that he only existed because Chunga allowed him to. Unfortunately Mister West’s lack of talent finally reached a point where even Chunga’s IMMENSE talent and benevolence were no longer sufficient to save Mister from the inevitable. You people need to get a life and come to grips with the fact that Chunga is the star, you hear me, chunga. STOP PAYING ATTENTION MISTER WEST AND PAY ATTENTION TO ME …ER..I MEAN CHUNGA.

Yeah, I don’t work for the End or anything, I just found this blog while I was doing research on, um, stuff, and I feel it necessary to say that you people are really pathetic. Just because the End is alienating its original fan base doesn’t mean said fan base has an excuse to be pissed that something they love is gone. The End is better than ever. If you can’t take the awesome heat, then feel free to change the dial, only don’t, just shut up and do what we say stupid.

Anonymous said...

Totally, if I ever get to a point where I am inclined to exhibit loyalty to something I really like instead of just changing my opinions cos I’m too lazy to think for myself, please shoot me dead.

hmmm, I think everybody that has left any comment good or bad needs to get a hobby, who the hell cares what the radio is doing? if everyone is that obsessed with it might mean you all are listening to much and not doing things like lets see.. working, raising a family etc.. PATHETIC PEOPLE.

Anonymous said...

Lizzy, Dizzy, whatever your name is? Can you just delete this lame blog now? Obviously everyone has moved on from this whole ordeal (as they should). This is old news. And from reading through it... I think everyone is in agreeance that the time wasted on this thing is pathetic. And anyone who still cares why a radio DJ is working somewhere else now is also pathetic. Let's just move on and talk about American Idol or something interesting.

Anonymous said...

Here is what I think happened:

Chunga threatens to leave for new market. He is asked what it'll take to stay. He asks for a lot of money. He asks for more direct rights and ownership of the show. They have to get rid of Mister, both to pay for the increase, and also because Chunga thinks the format is getting stale. Chunga likes Mister though, and how does he do this to his friend? It has to be kept completely confidential in this meeting between him and the suites. So he eventually agrees to allow mister to be let go, and they will look for someone to add, change the show up a little, add some different spice.

Chunga sold Mister out basically. Now, it is just if they can find talent that will make that show better, really, that is more what he wants than even keeping his friend on. Believe me, Chunga is all for trying to make the show bigger, making himself bigger, so he is for changing it as needed to get the stale out and bring the excitement back in.

Oh, and Parker sucks.

I love the sheep who think that someone who expressing their feelings/opinions about something is pathetic and wasting their time. I think its a bigger waste of time to come and post comments telling someone their are pathetic. The fact of the matter is that in America you can express yourself as you wish. If Dizzy Miss Lizzy wants to express your displeasure with something she used to enjoy changing for the worse then its her right.

Dizzy Miss Lizzy don't let the trolls get you down. They don't have the guts to leave their names. My guess is that its people closely related to the subject matter having sour grapes.

Lizzy-
Keep the blog going, love hearing what everybody has to say. You're awesome. Did anyone get a response from any of the sponsors? I would love to know what they responded. Keep up the blog-I love it! Have a great weekend.

Anonymous said...

Is this blog pathetic? No doubt about it. But the simple fact that you’re here reading the content and actually writing and posting a comment of your own just to tell everyone how stupid they are for having an opinion that differs from your own…well it doesn’t really lend to your credibility as an expert on un-patheticness now does it? You’re not some random person and everyone knows it. All comments stating that Chunga rocks and Mister fans need to get a life or drop dead are posted by Chunga, his fans, or some poor KENZ intern who’s been ordered to do it. Get a hobby? Are you kidding me? I just found a hobby, cause knowing this blog gets under your skin, even a little bit, is motivation enough for me to keep on posting, Chunga.

Anonymous said...

Why do you think if someone likes Chunga and doesn't like Mister... that it has to be Chunga or an End employee posting it? Do you think that the 20 people that actually care that Mister is gone are really going to make a big impact here? The morning show will continue to be successful and entertaining. Its success was never based on Mister West being there. Everyone knows that. And I personally want something entertaining to listen to on my drive to work... and they're still the best thing out there. With or without Mister. That's just a fact. If you say this blog is about "freedom of speech".... then aren't we allowed to like who we want to like, too? I like Chunga. Parker I could do without. But, I mainly listen in the morning and I think the show sounds as good as ever. And I think you're in denial if you're saying otherwise. You're just trying to "take a stand". And I think there are many other more important issues in life to take a stand about. So, I, for one... am done reading this blog. I'm embarassed that I have already spent the time to read through it and comment. And I'm embarassed for Lizzy that she doesn't have anything better to do with her time.

I think the show sounded really good this week.
Good Job Norm!!
Parker is growing on my wife but still annoys the hell out of me and Chelsee just continues to be IRRITATING...there are too many voices now. If Chunga is REALLY posting some of these, get rid of girlfriend!!!
i am sure Mister is posting some of these as well so good luck Mister...seriously!

Anonymous said...

I disagree. I met Chelsea at Harmons and she was really nice and pretty hot. I agree that there are too many voices, though. I can't really tell the difference between the 3 guys most of the time. I think it's nice to have a female to break things up a little bit. I doubt Chunga or Mister is really posting, though.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Chelsea but I still find you repulsive.

Anonymous said...

As I read through this blog, I notice a common theme. Someone says something mean about the End DJs... then someone says something nice about them... then the person that said something mean automatically assumes that the person that said something nice is, in fact, that specific DJ. Is that just wishful thinking? Because I seriously doubt Chunga, Mister, Chelsea or Parker is wasting their time writing blogs on here. Do you really think that just because you hate them... that everyone hates them? Obviously you are the minority. Or they wouldn't still be on the air with a successful radio station. You people need to stop being so obssessed with these people!!! It's weird!!

Anonymous said...

Little Steve Oldfield got fired because he was unreliable, wasn't making the show a priority, and when he was on the show he had very little new news to add.

I think what really threw Chunga over the edge was when Oldfield flew to Australia at the radio station's expense and did little more than party in his hotel room with Sydney skanks.

Anonymous said...

Ok. I'm behind. I just now figured out that Mister is gone and why, but that's because I just HAD to stop listening to 101.9 last fall. I just couldn't handle Chunga's ego. He knows everything and has done everything and you can really tell that all the people around him are afraid to argue with him even when they know he's wrong and they were tired of hearing it too. Hanging up on people over and over again on that "What's happening" segment! What was that?! What a jerk! I can still hear Mr. saying to Chunga "Stop hanging up on them! They didn't even get a chance to say anything!" He just seemed really nasty and took the listeners for granted. I lived in LA for many years and worked in syndicated TV. I remember so many wannabe's who got mercilessly made fun of because they tried to "high-sign" and name drop far LESS than Chunga does. He is so star-struck by anyone in the film or television industry that happens to talk to him that he really makes a fool of himself and Salt Lake - so, I permanently deleted 101.9 from my radio pre-sets today. I'll live and best of luck to you Mister!

Well, I'll just chime in one more time to say that I care. If you don't care, don't read and don't post. Seems kinda simple to me.

Anyway, SLC has been a very unique radio market when it comes to alternative music over the last 25 years. This is because, for some strange reason, DJs banded together and followed the genre of music and their friends from station to station, and literally built stations from the ground up when necessary to keep the music they wanted to play on the air. For some reason many of them stayed loyal and successful in the local market, rather than chasing the money to different markets around the country.

I'm not a radio guy, I don't know why that is, all I know is that I grew up with these people and I hate to see them go one by one. Is that pathetic? Maybe, but you've got to ask yourself, if the subject matter is so beneath you and pathetic then why are you reading? And why are you making the further effort to actually post a comment?

Maybe you'd like to argue the case that your particular interest is in the methodical seeking out of potentially pathetic threads and ensuring the people tuned into those threads are made aware of your judgment call as to its level of relevance. I guess if that is in fact the case then by all means continue your noble cause...

I'm not saying that my opinion or that of many others is going to make any difference to Citadel. It won't. It's not going to make Parker not suck, it's not going to make Chunga funny again, it's not going to prompt Chelsea to take a 15 minute vow of chastity. But I sure enjoy speaking my mind about something that strikes a nerve in me, even if only one other person listens and wants to talk about it.

Well, here are a couple things I've learned since my last comment on this thread:

1. Chunga and/or Chelsea and/or Parker are definitely anonymously posting comments on this thread.

2. I received email from a couple of DJs at X96. I hope they weren't telling me anything in confidence, but they indicated they think favorably of Mr. West and would hire him tomorrow if they had a place for him and he wasn't locked in a 6 month non-compete contract.

3. Parker's still an ignorant, no-talent name-dropping hack, but I've decided to be a regular listener. I've decided to tune in for 2 or 3 minutes a month just to make sure he still is making a complete ass of himself.

4. Chelsea's still a witless whore, but I'm beginning to suspect that's only on the air. There are indications that off the air, she's a delightful, virtuous girl when she's not on her knees or her back.

5. Malicious venting towards people that don't care about you or your opinion, while seemingly pointless, is undeniably therapeutic and arguably amusing.

6. Expressing opinions and talking about something you're interested in with other people that are interested in the same matter is apparently pathetic (maybe that only applies if it's online, I'm still trying to figure that out).

8. Mister was a talented nice guy who taught many people in this market the business. He made me laugh, and is still missed. It's nobody's fault really, just the reality of the business. It's still sad though.

7. Top Ramen has 14 grams of fat in one package. How is that even possible? It's just dried noodles and a bit of powder. This confounds me.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone leave this radio station on their own terms? Anyone not get fired or pushed out? I get business and a business decision to 'fire' or not extend a contract of dj's. However with the END it seems that they make big changes and try to roll out those changes as if nothing ever happened. What's the big secret? be honest with your listners, respond to them, give them some explanation. You can't please everyone all the time but at least be up front with people and let them know what is going on. That is where the END fails time and time again. That is why people are reduced to a blog to learn the truth about what is going on. Dj's come and go and we have to live with that but stop acting like it hasn't happened with every single personality you dismiss.

Anonymous said...

KCGLFreeRadio....serious????
I know every person you have mentioned and NONE of them are like the radio personalities represented on air. They are actors, not ignorant, not full of themselves, or whores. They are all talented people working in a cut-throat business.
p.s. everyone they do not care about this blog at all. but keep it up because its just helping increase the buzz about listening

Anonymous said...

Yes, I'm totally serious. Top Ramen has 7 grams of fat per serving, with two servings in each package. Hard to believe, I know. Honestly though, can that really be accurate?

On a different level of seriousness though, you do make me a bit remorseful for bashing people that I don't know in person. However, the online personas are the only way I have to be acquainted with the local DJs, with a couple exceptions. When I'm trying to listen with my kids in the morning and Chelsea turns everything into a dick joke and Chunga can't stop kissing ass during a C-list celeb interview, or I'm trying to drive home and listen to Parker try to convince everyone how cool he is, it gets under my skin. Parker and Chunga rip on listeners on a regular basis, and since I dislike them, I get amusement when I see someone taking a stab back at them, whatever the media. If that's not how they are in real life, that's cool, but they have to live with the personas they create for themselves in public.

And I dont' see how the fact that radio is a cutthroat business provides any excuse for being a ass or a slut on the air. I don't know what you do for a living, but any business I've been in where a career can be made or broken has been cutthroat, radio's no different in this regard.

KCGL...You are hilarious! Love to read your comments. I had to stop letting my kids listen in the mornings when Chelsea the slut starting becoming a bigger part of the show. She was the start of the end. You should have a daily blog. You would give us all something to smile about again, especially since we don't have Mister in the mornings anymore. Think about it and keep us posted.

Just found this blog while I was searching for information as to what Mister West is doing now. I was hoping he was doing some writing or even some DJ work that I could find. He cracks me up.

Thanks to Citadel Broadcasting I have broken my habit of listening to afternoon radio and now more recently, morning radio. (Now I am a nice mom and I actually let my kids pick the radio station in the car which is usually Radio Disney or MY99.5....sigh)

Since I was 13 I have always been disappointed that my favorite radio station didn't do well in the ratings. Being a fan of "New Wave" music in Utah has always meant that my favorite radio station doesn't stick around forever. I know that eventually I will find another station with some familiar voices to make me laugh again and I hope the suits (and the talent) at KENZ will realize that their changes won't help those dismal ratings.

Thanks again Lizzy! Keep us posted on where Mister West goes next! I will be sure to tune in!

I have lived all over the US in my 40 years, yet the Chunga and Mister show is the best I have heard anywhere. They have great timing and work off each other well. Well, I guess no more. I agree with the blog about Chelsea being the start of the end for that show. She is a great example of what every other morning show in the US is like.
Good luck to Mister.

Wow. Seriously. Wow. I can't believe how hateful and evil all you people are. The terrible things you are saying about people you don't even know. Calling some girl a whore that you don't even know because she makes "dick jokes" on the radio? Yikes. Just change the station and move on with your life!!! You people must really feel bad about yourselves since you have nothing better to do than say disgusting things about other people on a public blog. Maybe you should take a better look at your own lives and work on being a better person instead of blogging about other people. I bet if any of you were on the radio.... no one would listen and then they would write blogs about what fat retards you are. Wouldn't that make you feel good? Seriously people. You've got to stop being so goddamned evil!! How can you sleep at night with the horrible things you're saying on this blog? BE NICE!!! NOT EVIL!!!!!!

I sell advertising for one of the Citadel radio stations and I know all of the End DJs. I just pray that none of them ever look at this blog. Parker, Chunga and Cort are all really nice people and all fathers. Chelsea is the farthest thing from a "whore" or a "slut". She is really sweet and outgoing and actually has had the same boyfriend for, I think, 7 years. Yes, Chunga likes her to sounds wild and crazy on the air.... but in reality... she's not like that at all. It makes me sick that you all would say such awful things about her and the rest of the jocks. Yes, they have to accept their "on-air personas"... but you all have to accept that no one on the radio is exactly like the person you hear on the air. Not even Mister West. That's why it's called a "show". They are putting on a show for you. They work really hard at their jobs. They come in to work at 3:00 in the morning to put together a good show. And they are all really nice people that are just trying to do their jobs. Of course not everyone is going to like everything they say. But, that is why the show is interesting and entertaining. And if you don't think it is... don't listen to it. It's just that simple. But, there is no reason to attack them for doing their jobs. And trust me, their ratings ARE good. And we make a lot of money selling advertising on that station. Mister was a good guy, too. And he's doing just fine working at the D NEWS. Now, come on. Leave them alone and get back to work. :)

Anonymous said...

In regards to an earlier blog.... Kari Bushman quit, Wendi quit, Biff Raff quit, and the suits wouldn't pay Casey enough money, so he quit. Mister is the only one that got fired. I don't think there are any big secrets. This happens at all radio stations. People come and go. People quit. People get fired.

Anonymous said...

Also... old waver... good job being a good parent and letting your kids listen to rado disney. I'm reading all these people saying "I can't listen to the End with my kids in the car anymore". Well-good! You shouldn't be listening to any talk morning or afternoon show with your kids in the car. They are all geared towards adults. They talk about sex, trashy celebrities and news about people being shot down the street from your house. People with kids SHOULD be listening to radio disney! And listen to your talk shows when you're alone or with adults in the car. Dummies.

Anonymous said...

Feel free to delete this Izzy.... but in your entry above (which I just noticed) you state "I'm tired of being called names by those who don't even know me." Yet, this entire blog is people calling Parker, Chunga and Chelsea names and saying rude things about them in hopes that they are reading this. So, go ahead and think you're high and mighty and that you're "doing a good thing" here. But, what you're doing is supporting people saying mean things about people they don't even know. Why don't you delete THOSE entries????? That's what I want to know. If you REALLY had a heart or a soul... you would delete them and you wouldn't let people say mean things on this blog. Ever thought about THAT??? And I really hope Mister West is a better person than to support this blog.

kari bushman...i miss her!

Anonymous said...

Yeah Kari was good...

I love how people are getting all worked up about this. If it’s such a non issue why is there so much web traffic about what happened to Mister West?

That's great that Citadel is selling ad space. I think it will be interesting to see how the Arbitron ratings play out with the departure of Mr. West.

And what's wrong with having a clean radio station that kids can listen to in the car? Radio Disney is not palatable. Pave a new path and play more music and less trashy talk. Howard Stern paved path of debauchery radio 20 years ago. Satellite radio is actually doing this. Less talk and more music: a rare concept these days. That being said I used to love the End when they would talk about local events and local news. I loved it when Chunga and Mister would mock people like Rocky Anderson. It was great hearing Stevie O get all worked up about a movie or not getting his coffee. It was good radio.

Anonymous said...

If you want more music and less talk in the morning... I think you're answer IS satellite radio. Or an iPod. I just think it's mental that everyone bitches about the End and then still listens to it so they can bitch some more. If you don't like something... change it and get over it. Every single radio station in Utah that has a morning show plays only a couple songs an hour. The point of listening to a morning show is to hear the conversations (even if they're about trashy celeb stuff). If you don't want to hear that crap... stop listening. Genius concept!!!

I think I'm done listening to "The Chunga Show". Here's why:

1) The show isn't as funny now that Mister West is gone.
2) I'm tired of hearing Chunga blather on and on about how he's an "actor". Sorry Brett, you're not an actor. I've seen your movies (including "Forever Strong"). I don't consider someone an actor if he/she is in the movie for fewer than 3 minutes.
3) I'm tired of hearing Chunga drop names to try to add cred to his being an "actor". I don't really care that Nicea Digerring gave Chunga the "stink eye" at Nordstrom.
4) Syd the Psychic is a fraud. It annoys me how Chunga drools over her whenever she's on the show.

I will listen to 101.9 The End during lunch though because I enjoy the Resurrection Lunch. It reminds me of the good old days when Karri Bushman hosted the Karaoke Lunch show during the noon hour.

I'm tired of The End too. I stopped listening during the day when Kari left. I stopped listening in the afternoons when Parker was hired, because he's just so bad. Now, there's no reason to listen in the mornings. I still like Chunga, but Chelsea drives me nuts.

So the ratings, according to Arbitron, have KENZ ranked 17th of 36 for Winter of 2007. Maybe not dismal, but not in the top 10. It will be interesting to see how they do now.

again I state this is MY blog and I don't appreciate being called names. It's like walking into someone's house and insulting the hostess. It's rude. And I haven't said very much in the way of insults towards people at KENZ.
MY blog is here as a means of communication for FAMILY MEMBERS who don't live near and for friends to keep in touch.
THIS POST just happens to get a lot of traffic. I happen to like my user name., thank you. And my cats are non of your buisness. No one has asked for your opinion about ME.
I'd really like to just tell most of you to go to Hell, but that's not my personality or my way so all I ask is that you show respect to your hostess at least. I know it's a foreign concept to most, but I was taught RESPECT in my home.

I agree with the last post. Dizzy, grow some balls or delete this blog. You need to take responsible for all of the horrible things that are being said on this blog. If you actually were a nice person... you would have deleted this blog long ago. It has turned from "What's going on with Mister" to "Let's all say rude things about other people to make ourselves feel better about our sad, little lives". We know Mister is at the D News now and that he's doing fine. Mission accomplished. You obvsiouly have nothing better to do then count how many people have looked at "your blog". It must be the only exciting thing in your life. And as sad as that is... I think it's time for you to get a new hobby.

And "ihatechelsea" aka "idon'tlikechelsea".... you only wish that Chelsea or anyone else in radio cared enough about your pathetic ass to post a blog. Just face the facts that not everyone "hateschelsea" and some people (everyone I know) think the morning show has never sounded better! And just because people say good things about the End... doesn't mean they work for the end. Duh.

Ok, no name calling - just facts.

Parker blows. I tried one day to listen to his show while I was doing some work. Couldn't get through the whole thing. Those remixes he does, blow. But the worst part is he praises himself continually. I keep hearing he is from New York , as if to add some credibility. That means nothing - was he from Albany or something.

The morning show used to be amazing. Sometimes people have chemistry and things work. Without Mister, the morning show blows. I am sure Cort and Chelsea are nice people, but for morning personalities they blow. I remember listening to Chunga and Mister going back and forth on a subject and it was entertaining - in comes Cort with some comments and it was like you could hear the tires screeching to a halt.
The bottom line is , whoever is making all these changes (rumored to be Parker), the people who will suffer are going to be the rest of the employees - sales, staff, etc. when the ratings continue to drop and advertiser dollars slow. I worked in radio many years ago. I have also seen "outside people" come in and destroy a company. Usually they have the least vested interest in the company, and are the first to get out. The true employees are left trying to salvage what is left.

My prediction. In six months Mister will be on air again with another station - and it will not blow. KENZ will be wondering why they are so low in the ratings.

Chunga is a so so raido talent in an even more so so radio market. Howard Stern is a real morning show and makes both the Radio from hell and the chunga show look silly. It is clear that Chunga got his friend fired because he asked for too much money. KENZ is to freaken stupid and gutless to realize that Mister was an important part of the show. Does any one fined Robin quivers funny? No but, look at that formula it is brilliant and prooven. The chunga and mister show had that they were just to stupid to realize it.

Lizzy...I check your blog often and wrote e-mails in support of Mister West. Keep posting because I want to know when Mister joins another radio station. Then, I'll be able to listen to an interesting morning show again. As far as the people posting spiteful comments to you...well...they don't need to read or participate, do they? There are a lot of people that really enjoyed Mister West and will follow him. I'd love to see the next quarter ratings posted. Chunga...his name dropping and celeb gawking is really irritating. "My good buddy" so and so culminates with his relationship with George Clooney's dad. No real celeb knows who he is. I'm glad he has his "entertainment room" but there are people in this city who are starving. There are children who can't afford to go to the dentist and have rotting teeth. Chunga, boast all you want about your "toys" but you look ridiculous to any educated person. Some of us liked to listen to Mister West because he made the world's problems a little lighter but not in a rude way. Keep up the blog, Lizzy.

I don't know anything about radio business and can't tell you a thing about the staff at 101.9.

I started listening to the Chunga and Mister show one day because I tuned in and was entertained. Chunga and Mister seemed to play off each other very well and they quite often made me laugh out loud.

I always enjoyed their adult humor especially living in a market where everything is so "sacred". I didn't let my kids listen to the show and I think their comments about politics sounded very uneducated but funny. I found it very interesting that the crudest morning show on the radio, in this market, had their largest following from Utah County. I said I found it interesting not surprising.

A while ago I found myself wondering who this "Chelsea" was and why was she on the show? She sounded like the intimidated 17 year old who wanted to hang out with college guys so she would always awkwardly laugh at their stupid comments not having any idea what they talking about.

And then Parker appeared having a squeaky radio voice and exuded a lack of confidence. Ouch!

The radio station just seemed to be run in a very amateur way. But I still listened because I was still entertained with the "Chunga & Mister" show.

Then all of the sudden Mister was gone. I supposed he was on vacation for a while and again I thought to myself this show is very amateurish.

Well this has all been written in past tense because I just can't listen any more. I find Chunga unabashedly arrogant and I can't for the life of me figure out why. It may be that I haven't seen any of his movies, but has anyone? His name-dropping is something I learned to stop doing in Park City at the film fest 20 years ago. It is so embarrassing it even embarrasses the listener.

I'm adding to the blog because for a while the "Chunga & Mister" show was a good part of my morning that I looked forward to. Started my day with a laugh.

I'll just find something else to listen to.

I would be interested in knowing their rating though? Does anyone know when the next ratings come out or where I would find them? I think this show and the actions they took with Mister would be a very good business case study as

I'm sure I am not the only listener who just simply stopped being entertained.

Have you heard anything more from Mister? Sure do miss good radio in the morning. What do you listen to now, I find myself doing quite a bit of "surfing". It's too bad "the powers that be" didn't realize what a golden goose they had in the Chunga and Mister show. Radio just isn't the same! Would love a "Mister" update. He should start a website :) Thanks for your blog-I check it daily.

People. Grow up. Welcome to reality. Sometimes companies have to make hard decisions. Usually the reasons are not known to the general public.

Some contracts get renewed. Some don't. That's the way it works.

Move on. Get a life. Let it go. If you don't like what they did, don't listen to the station. It's that simple.

ok- so is THIS one of the "fat chicks in mister's ward blogs'" that Chunga mentioned this morning in his rant? BTW, the words in quotations were exactly Chunga's. Is he for REAL??? I can't believe HE'd call someone fat!!!!! Hilarious.

Anonymous said...

I don't trust Chunga. Here's why: Back when Biff was leaving he made it a point to tell everyone he loves The End and he AND MISTER will be very much involved in chosing the next PD, and even said his contract gave him that right. I thought that was cool. Well, along comes Parker and he sucks! The airwaves blow up with how much he sucks and then Chunga backtracks and says he is just a contractor who shows up for his shift and leaves right after. He had nothing to do with bringing Parker on...

I just can't trust him. I tend to trust Mister more, though human nature says the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I listen online because I moved out of state a few years ago but still love The End. I don't like it so much now, even Cort has seemed to lower himself.

Anonnymouse said...

OK...here is a solution...lets let Brian (Mr West) out of his "no compete" clause and let x-96 have him and the end can have Richie T?....sounds fair to me....that way, two of the stars of "Singles Ward 2" can work together and reminice about old times..and plus, Richie T thinks he can cat too, just like Brett does!

Anyone who has listened to 101.9 since it was 107.5 knows that there have been many changes over the years but the recent changes have just not been good. It's just not the same station anymore and the morning show is no longer worth listening to. I've listened since the beginning and unfortunately don't anymore as a result of the recent changes. Glad to see Casey has moved on to better things though.

I find it interesting if this blog was mentioned on the radio. It means that its starting to get to the on air staff. And maybe the truth is closer than we realize because if it wasn't they would just ignore it. I also find Chunga's silence telling.

... and Chunga has lost touch.

Maybe radio has lost touch, and it's starting to get what it deserves. Ya that's you Citadel and Clear Channel!

Where's my iPod?

Chunga is a MORON.

"GAME ON Mo-Fo." ??

"Public Enemy Number One"??

Are you serious? Great job demolishing any credibility you may have had, Brett.

May I propose a toast? "Brett, here's to your quick ratings death; you no-talent, homophobic, poop-a-phobic, ego-maniac. May you go tumbling down clutching your useless IMDB password."

And here's a GRAND programming idea: Why don't you tell another "this is how I pooped myself" story? Idiot.

Can't wait 'til they shut the doors on KENZ. Maybe Citadel will turn 101.9 into another Country station and you (Brett) can hang around spinnin' George Strait all day. That would suit you.

Later, looser.

you seem to tout the "poor little me" card way too much.
This IS your blog and you are capable of removing or censoring it when it has profanity or whatever but you are playing both sides of the argument and being incredibly two faced. for you to let someone tear chunga apart is OK for you but you cry when someone calls you fat or accuses you of being a DnD fan, or when they say negative things about Mr.
There is nothing preventing you from your freedom of speech...but you certainly enjoy pushing the silence button when YOU decide YOU are not happy with what is being said.
It just makes you look foolish is all.
You opened this can of worms by getting on your soapbox. You should at least woMAN up enough to take what comes to you becuase of it.
Why not be a good moderator rather than just delete when you get pulled into it. I am sure chunga would like to delete you...or anyone who is pushing their narrowminded opinions but he is a public figure and that is something that comes with the job. You in a VERY TINY sense have put yourself on the block as well...like it or not...fat or skinny...cats or dogs...take it in stride, dont just censor it.
You are kind of silly Lizzy...maybe a little too dizzy by all the pressure? Someone called you fat or whatever...look what you did. Tons of people are calling Chunga everything under the sun, what should HE do? Now that you are the eficianado on radio personailities?
YOu will probably delete this so I hope it makes sense to you directly on some level.
Good luck Lizzy.

I stopped listening when Bunga became a raging homophobic ultra conservative right before our ears during the last few years. I am enjoying this going down in flames spectacle. Mister West kept the Bunga alive in our market. Without Mister, hopefully the Bunga will go away a make more cheesey movies that help him and others make a profit from his religion.

I HAD to stop listening to this program about a year ago. It was actually shortly after Steve stopped coming on the show!!!
I got SO sick of how Brett, I mean, Chunga was right about EVERYTHING, calling anyone who was a democrat nasty names ON-AIR, and listening to him talk about things he had no idea about, but he knew it all, and spoke his mind WAY to much. He sounded arrogant, ignorant, retarded, etc. The only saving graces of that show were Mister, Steve, and Cort.
It is such a shame that Brett has had a career in anything as long as he has. He has very little talent, and an ego like a black hole.
It may not be right that Mister was fired, but its probably for the best for him. He acted uncomfortable most the time brett was talking, and had to make quick excuses. THat isn't a work environment I'd want to work in. He'll probably be more appriciated where he is. Though, if he returned to X96, that would be AWESOME!!!

Anonymous said...

I do carpool, and I let the kids choose a station on the way to school. One of them chose 101.9 yesterday. As we were driving, Chunga was doing a big speech about how wonderful their ratings were, how Chelsea and Cort had made their rating soar and that they had never been better since Mister left. He made a big deal about how he hates to talk about ratings, but since everyone had been SOOOO mean to them, especially Chelsea, he wanted to publically thank everyone for making them so much higher in the ratings. Give me a break! As of today, they are exactly the same as they were months ago. Nice try Brett. Keep up the good work. Pretty soon they will have to install new doors at the station to make room for your big head.

The link to the ratings is:

but here they are...

KENZ-FM Album Adult Alternative 2.0 2.4 2.6 2.3

Lizzy, glad to see your blog is still up. I keep checking to see if there is ever a post from Mister. What station do you listen to now? Any suggestions?

I heard Fathead.. he does have an unusually round fat head.. was jealous cause mister got into a movie that Chipmunk cheeks tried out for. His head is big in several different ways. I like also they put him as a fat cop in one of his movies. He isn't a real actor he is no more prestigious than a commercial actor. Actually he is less than commercial material... he isn't good looking so he wouldn't be able to sale very much.

So it's been a while, and this blog was incredibly informative for me. The other day I heard during the Chunga show that Tony Toscano was great, and I wondered why they lost Lil Stevie O, and they mentioned something about an Australia fiasco, now thanks to this blog I know what that was - and it sounded entirely appropriate to remove him. I also am glad to know the story behind Mister West's removal, though I assumed something along the lines of a change in direction for the station (and I guess Chunga too), ever since they hired Parker. I feel like the station is trying a slightly "cooler" show - and well I must say its not necessarily a bad decision. They need to be able to compete in soon to be drastically changing market, due to shifts to HD and XM.

As for where my supports lie, I was angry about Mister leaving, but I gave it a chance - I did always listen to the show for Chunga, but as Mister stated to Chunga before he was fired, "You would probably go crazy without me." I was afraid the show would be too wild. But I feel Cort and Chelsea do a good job balancing out Chunga, and frankly they both add something different to the show, building on the Mister straight man, with a different dynamic. I like them, I think they do a good job - it's entertaining.

I also hated Parker at first, but I insisted on giving him a chance, especially after hearing some of his New York stories - I found that I like him a lot, not always - and his choice of music is questionable at most times. But hes new, he's different, and the undercronies of the station are interesting too - I'm a college aged indie listener, and I feel Parker (despite his age) is able to keep it interesting and original, I became a fan after his mashup show, with A&D, Party Ben, and the transvestite hostess Kennedy!
And as for both Parker and Chunga insulting fans - you know sometimes people need to vent and complain about their jobs, and "idiot fans" who piss them off - well its part of the package. I also kind of think its funny, though sometimes cruel - but I can't be a hypocrit, I lay into people who I think are stupid.

So after six months of giving it a chance, I am a fan again - also I don't see Mister anywhere, and if he's working in radio again I'd like to check him out, though I doubt I'll be hooked, he'd need a good side kick, and if its on x96 - guh. Lets just say I'm the kind of person who can't stand any of their morning show people to be within a couple miles of me. I find those three to be so odd and unpleasant - they make me itch.

Thanks for keeping this up too, because I really was wondering about Stevie O and Mister West.

Dear Anon 6/17/08 9:04 am

What could Chelsea possibly add for you unless you want to constantly hear about her drinking? Her laugh is annoying...she is annoying. She can't even speak properly.

Sale=Sell
Mail=Mel
Crayon=Crown

I could go on and on. If she wasn't on, I might be able to listen again. I agree with you that Chunga is funny...big head and all, but I can't take Chelsea. Tony Toscano, in my opinion, can not replace Little Stevie O. Them getting rid of him was just another Mister. I wish they would make some changes...there really isn't much out there as far as music goes besides 101.9, but I just can't handle it in the mornings. I have given Parker a chance and he's grown on me, but mornings, no way...all I can say is I'm glad for my i-pod!

chrisX said...

So it's been about 6 months--any work of Mister getting back on the radio? I still tune in to 101.9 in the morning, but I find myself station surfing a lot more when I get disgusted/bored and asked myself how this is any better without Mister. And is anyone else as perplexed by Chunga's infatuation with Tony Toscano as I am? He's like my dad trying to act cool, which is quaint as long as you're not trying to make a career of it. Tony needs to tone down the 2-generations-ago film and TV references, stop trying to be one of the guys (just act like a guest, not run the show, and just get out already when the movie reviews are over), and cut it out with the clever Candle Breeze plugs--it's annoying and insulting.

I just saw this blog, was "googling" a few things and stumbled on it. Don't really have anything important to say, other than, those that are posting the ratings... you're missing something important here:

You're looking at the overall station rating. Radio stations break it down by day-part. Even if overall the station rating might not be great, the dayparts mean more. KENZ's morning show is the only thing keeping the station alive anymore, if you see the real breakdown of the ratings.

The KENZ morning show's ratings are just as high, if not higher, than they were with Mister West (top 5 in most major demos). For a show having lost a major player, and not taking some sort of dip in it's first few months, that's a pretty great thing.

Anonymous said...

So, yesterday I'm flipping through channels and hear Chunga say they are going to have Adam West on. I love Adam West so I stop and listen for a second. It has been months...anyway...it wasn't Adam West, just yet another Chunga impersonation.
Cort is addressing "Adam West" and says..."Mister West" to him and then says "Oh, sorry, that was ackward". At which point Chunga/Adam West says "don't call me that name douche bag".
For someone who continually claimed how much he loved Mister and had nothing to do with him leaving I thought that was a pretty telling statement!

Anonymous said...

I just checked this thread again to get the latest info on Mister if any were to be had. Apparently someone who has posted many comments here going by the name of "Anonymous" (is that greek, or are you just a giant REM fan?) proposed to me a couple months back based solely on my previous comments. Quite flattering to be sure, even though I can't tell your gender from your well chosen moniker.

Chunga has been getting increasingly cocky, and his arrogance and unhappiness have really been shining through. I like him, but his emotions were outwitting his professionalism on air. All that aside, that whole stepping on Mr. West to move up thing was just lame. West grounded him well. Cort is awesome but more of a pussy than Mr. West so Chunga walked over him too often. Chunga's political rants have just been painful as well. I appreciate opposing views, and Chunga knows how to do his homework, but usually just interjects his opinuendo and makes it sound like facts. This is one area where Mr. West kept him grounded. Anyway Chunga, come back with a little humbleness...keep funny, build back your empire and tell Mr. West you were a dick and you are sorry. Tell Cort sorry as well. I will give you a try again when you are back on air.

Hello, just found your blog after wondering what the heck happened to the format at The End and decided to do a little research. I hadn't really listened to that station much after Mister left... way too much talking, particularly with Chunga CONSTANTLY bragging and self-promoting his "acting career." Tedious man. Although I miss the alternative rock, I don't miss him at all. I was saddened by Mr West's departure but it's that much worse to learn he had been treated with such disrespect that they fired him and didn't even give him two weeks notice, instead walking him out like a criminal. Idiots, he was the best part of that show.
