Lets talk story...

You know how you lay in bed at night and compose novels and blogs and letters and they are so in depth and full of useful information, but then you fall asleep and in the morning you remember that you thought about it all before sleeping, but now that you're awake you can't remember a single thing.... That's how I am today. I laid in bed last night wide awake for quite a while and I thought about what I could blog about today and all the interesting information and events that I have had lately, but now that the morning has come I don't remember much of it. Funny, how I keep a note pad next to my bed for just this stuff, but I never use it. I guess I'll just look back on the past few weeks and see what I can come up with.

Yesterday was the One Year mark of John's Dinosaur Flu, and I'm happy to say that he hasn't had any real problems since last July. He had an appointment with his Neurologist last month and the doctor lowered his dosage of Varapamil from 180mg to 120mg and if he stays crazy free until his next appointment in June then the doctor will take him off the medication. We are both excited by this. John is looking forward to not being tired all the time, which is a side effect of the medication. I'll be happy to leave this chapter of our lives behind and there won't be an ounce of regret to have it gone. But again, the Neurologist changed his mind and reversed most of what he told john the last time he went in.

SIDE NOTE: I have decided that Specialists aren't very special at all and this particular provider doesn't check his patient records before appointments. I understand that doctors can't fix everything, and that most of what they do is just educated guessing, all I ask is that a provider remember his patients - if not by sight, than by at least reviewing their charts before an appointment.

At least on this topic life is looking up. However, thinking he'd be funny yesterday he sent me the following email "Hey I have headache, and they are taking me to the emergency room……. Just kidding. Ha Ha. I love you." I didn't think it was funny in the least bit. I really did start to panic a little before I reached the end of the message.
I wonder, sometimes, how long it will take for the panic to go away so that every time he has a headache or if he gets too tired or if he's silent for too long or if he stumbles over a word I don't feel like I'm on the verge of having to take him to the ER, or if maybe this time he snaps and doesn't quite come back. Some times I think that maybe the worry wouldn't be so bad if his Dino Flu hadn't been compounded in the same week as Lariann's death. I guess I'll never know. I find that every time we broach the topic I have to reach out and touch him, his hand, his arm, his hair, to reassure myself that he is still here, and that we are both okay. I remember the blank look in his eyes and inability to speak. It's frightening. I'm hoping that we are past that now, but you never know what the future brings.
Weird thing though, is that I think the Varapamil has been keeping John from having his night-terrors. Ever since he's gone to the lower dose he talks more in his sleep then I can ever remember. That would be an interesting thing to research. I wonder if it's true, or if maybe he has just been over stressing in the last month or so. I guess we'll never know.

Speaking of One Year anniversaries.... John, Rachel, and myself took flowers to Lariann the other night.

Aaaaand... time for a new topic. I had the weirdest dream last night about roller derby, high school and mice. I don't remember much of it at all, but lets just say it was strange. I do recall that the mouse that was chasing me was missing half it's face, and I was trying to protect a purple egg to deliver it some where, but I ended up on a giant's stove and I worried that we were both going to be eaten. Then I was in school, but I never went to my classes and I couldn't remember where the seminary building was and some how that tied in to roller derby. I really do love roller derby though I'd join a league if I wasn't such an inactive wuss. Weird. I know.

We had planned on taking a mini vacation in May, but in the end it has been decided that we are not going to Illinois for Bryce's graduation. This was a trip that we really had been looking forward to and I sat down so many times to book our flights but something always came up and I'd walk away from the tickets. A few weeks ago it finally came down to - Are we going, or not? - and then the lawn mower died and life got expensive and in the end it was determined that it's just not the right time for us to go. We are really sad that we are missing out on this, but it just didn't work out for us. If you don't know, or haven't heard, Bryce, john's best friend, is graduating from Southern Illinois University with a Masters in Arts. He has been working on his degrees in theater since we all got home from our missions nearly 9 years ago. So...

Way to go Bryce! We are so proud of you, and your accomplishment!!
He has also landed himself a job at the University of St. Louis as the assistant professor (I think) in their theater department. It looks like they'll be setting up house there for a while. We have decided that once the Allen's are settled in their new home in Missouri we'll make our trip to visit them.

Mother's day is on Sunday May 9th.
Did you get your mother a gift?
What are your plans?
I plan on staying in bed with a blanket over my head.

As for the rest of our lives, we're pretty much the same. Nothing really new or exciting is going on. Norm & Becca are still having a baby girl. Z & Not-Your-Sister are also having a baby that we may or may not know the gender of as of yesterday. No names for either of them yet. So they are currently referred to as little Sue and Rotten.
We visited with the Awesome family a little on Tuesday night since Not-Your-Sister wanted to get her Will signed and notarized before someone could murder her. So John and I were witnesses and John's sister, Rachel, came along as our notary. So now it's all official so Not-Your-Sister can rest easy ... at least on that issue, apparently she worries about being murdered. I'm impressed. I think Z's family has more of their affairs together then most people I know. I guess it's good to have a plan.
I suppose that if I were to write a Will currently it would just cover my cats, my bed and my TV since those are the only things I really own. We have no money and no belongings that are worth anything... I know that if John and I were to die someone would probably just come and let my cats out to get run over by cars. Poor Kitties.
Okay, if John and I die unexpectedly before a real will is created; Andrea, Jessica, and Erin can fight over my jewelry except my pearls, they will go specifically to Erin. Jessica also regains possession of all the barbies. Scott can have my TV's and gaming systems. Logan, Bryce and Jacob can split up John's comic book collection and action figures. The oldest Awesome child and Andrew can have my books, they can decide who gets what. Nicole can have my music boxes, I love each of them and hope she likes them as well. Erin gets my cedar chest and all items inside of it. Rachel and Kenji can have my music collection/CD's, even though I've been told my music is "lame". My mother gets the laptop for her genealogy. My dad regains possession of my big box o'love as well as all of his sweaters. Lucy gets the treasure chest and all the jewels and treasures therein. Andrea get my photo albums and my glass cake stand. Mikayla can have my bed, the broyhill head and footboards were something I always wanted and they're special to me. Devin gets the DVD's. Kira can have the basket of key chains, they belong to John, her mom can tell her how special they are. Norm can have the star wars toys, most are still in their boxes so they may or may not be worth anything. Natalie can have all my stuffed animals. Loran gets custody of the cats. All other items that are left can be divided up between the unnamed members of my family I'm sure everyone can find something they like. Tools, lawnmowers, weed whackers and fire pit become property of the estate and may be disposed of as the landlord sees fit. Any money or insurance polices we have will go to our parents for funeral expenses and reimbursement for the years of trouble that we caused... and our car should be driven off a cliff or donated to the Mythbusters. John is to be cremated and turned into diamonds, and I just want a burlap sack. There you go.

Other than that, we haven't had any car accidents, no one has gone to the ER and we don't have any special announcements. As my uncle Blaine put it last week: "That's pretty much it, get up, go to work, come home and go out to watch a movie once in a while."

I fell down :(

I hurt.

My story for the day goes like this: I woke up to a very sick husband (still) and decided that I could just lay in bed for a few more minutes because if I didn't have to take him to work then I had 15 extra minutes to kill... well I killed them with sleep and I didn't get a shower so I'm annoyed that I have greasy hair (yuck! T.M.I. I'm sure) So I finally get dressed and out to my car and of course it's 8 degrees outside so I have to scrape off the auto's windows. And of course after the beautiful afternoon yesterday the top layer of snow has turned to ICE. There is no traction on my red doc martins so I slip and slide my way around the car and get it completely scraped off except for the back window. As I move to the back of the car I slip - - feet fly up over my head and I fall flat on my back - - I'm sure it would have been amusing to watch but there was no one there to see me except my neighbor across the street, but she was to busy scraping of her car to notice. So I lay there on the ground cold and sore for a few minutes trying to decide if I really wanted to get up, but I knew that I had no choice and I must go into work - sigh - It made me want to go wake up my sick husband and make him finish scraping the car for me. instead I just finished what I was doing and went to work. Now, after sitting here all day I have decided that my butt hurts, my back aches, my wrist hurts, and I have a headache and I believe all of it can be blamed on my fall this morning.

I'm so talented, that I am.

This week

The best advice I have gotten all week:

"Stop taking that prescription"

and

"There is no time like the present"

Hmmm....

For the past week I have had a strange stomachache/crampy/hungry pain in my middle... I wonder what it could be? Is it serious? Should I go to a doctor?

Questions Questions Questions, but no answers....

strange discoveries

In the last few days I have noticed that eating chocolate makes me stuffy.
I can be feeling perfectly fine, but I have some chocolate and not even 5 minutes later my nose is stuffed up and I have massive sinus drainage. . . I hope I'm not allergic to chocolate.

Inhale Pink, Exhale Blue

It's really not the coughing that bother's me, it's the gasping for air in-between coughs that bothers me.

I also hate being woken up in the middle of the night gasping and coughing and feeling like I'm suffocating... I don't know if that's something I'll ever get used to.

Tis the season

So I have a cold again. Nothing new. I have gotten sick for almost every holiday since I was in high school and the husband asked me the other day if I don't just do it on purpose. Yes Honey, I go out an pick up other people's used Kleenex and then ask them to lick my keyboard just so I can get a cold for the holidays.... riiiight.

So I'm super stuffy and have a major sinus headache and I just want a good dose of Nyquil and my bed. I'm at work though, and what I want is not an option.

Oh, and.... guess what came back along with my cold?? The cough. The wheezing. The squeaking. And my personal favorite waking myself up coughing in the middle of the night.

However this time, instead of waiting until I'm near death with my could and coughing I went to the doctor early and got some antibiotics for the nasal thing, and a new prescription for an inhaler. So hopefully I wont suffer through this one as much as I suffered through the last one.

I now officially have asthma on my medical records so no one in the future will tell me I'm crazy because I say I can't breathe.

Do I have a “History of Asthma”?

I cough all the time. (I had attributed this to allergies.)
I cough in the summer.
I cough in the winter.
I cough if I laugh.
I cough when I’m not stuffy at all.
I cough because of the inversion.
I can’t breathe up in the mountains.
I cough if I wrestle with my husband.
I hyperventilate when I play tag with my cat.
I periodically have coughing fits when over exerting myself.
I can’t climb more then one a flight of stairs without stopping halfway to breathe.
I get winded walking from one end of my house to the other. (Isn’t this because I’m fat? Or am I fat because I can’t breathe?)
Odd as it seems I also can’t breathe if I drink carbonated beverages. (does this have anything to do with asthma?)

I think it goes back to the statement: “I think I should have gone to the doctor more as a teenager.” What if I have had all these problems all this time and it was just never caught? Hmmm. that was the interesting question that my husband asked yesterday. In our family we only really went to the doctor if you were broken. Could this be an ongoing problem that was just never diagnosed? When the doctors ask if I have had a “history of...” I always say no because there is no recorded history and I have probably written the problem off as related to something else.

I seriously have felt a million times better since I have had my inhaler and can breathe again. I’m not tired. I haven’t had to stop at the top of the stairs to not die when I walk into work in the morning. And oddly enough I don’t get heart burn as much when I can breathe. That’s a weird side effect.

So the next time the doctor asks if I have a history of asthma the answer is yes.

My new friend.

I was told today that I don't look as pale and miserable as I had for the past few weeks.

Health Update

Asthma: a chronic lung disorder that is marked by recurring episodes of airway obstruction (as from bronchospasm) manifested by labored breathing accompanied especially by wheezing and coughing and by a sense of constriction in the chest, and that is triggered by hyperreactivity to various stimuli (as allergens or rapid change in air temperature)

But the doctor's not going to tell me I have Asthma because I don't have a history of it. And there is no reason why a 28 year old woman would be getting asthma now (I hope I'm not allergic to my cats. eek!) But it is Asthma.
After curves the other night I could not stop coughing. I coughed so much it hurt. I have sore ribs and sides and even my back aches from all this hacking. I sat through work all day yesterday just thinking how much I hurt and couldn't breath and I just wanted to go home and die. I emailed my manager and told her that I was "calling in sick for Friday so don't expect to see me tomorrow."
I got an appointment with a doctor. not MY doctor because he doesn't work on Friday's, but I saw a very nice young fellow named Dr. Fife. Seriously he couldn't be any older then me, but he was very nice and his nurses were very helpful. (He did have a dead fish hand shake though and that is a annoyance to me.) Of course the first thing anyone asks you when you walk into a doctor's office is "what's wrong with you?" I can't breathe was an easy enough statement and from then on out it was chest x-rays, and questions and everyone I encountered at the facility told me I sounded awful. (gee thanks I couldn't tell). My chest x-rays were clear so there was no scar tissue or congestion but for some reason I am wheezing and coughing and can't breathe. In the end it came down to Asthma.
They set me up in the exam room and gave me 2 nebulizer treatments. And a steroid shot in my bottom.
Pumping your lungs full of steroids in the morning is great... I was jittery and shaky and I couldn't hold anything still. It's been almost 12 hours since then, and I'm just barely starting to not shake. BUT it worked. I stopped wheezing and I was able to take a nap without waking up coughing up a lung. It was nice. John had to check on me while I was sleeping though because he couldn't hear me. I told him I was in stealth mode.
However now I have a variety of medications to take. I have an Inhaler, Steroid pills, and more Hydorcodone Cough Syrup. Yay for me. so what this is 5 medications I now take on a daily basis (plus an allergy pill). It could be much worse though because these medications for this asthma attack are just temporary and I should be done with them in 12 days.
He also told me not to go to Curves for a while.

I think it's worse

I went to curves with my mother last night thinking "I'm feeling a little better, I can do this" but after my 30 minute work out I couldn't stop coughing and now today I feel much worse.
Exercising is bad.

Cough, Cough, Cough

It's Saturday night and my husband has gone to Provo to go to Priesthood Conference with his dad and older brother. I am home alone and it is so nice. I never do get a lot of alone time because it seems that someone is always around. but I'm enjoying this.
I tried watching Conference today, but I took 2tsp of my hydrocodone cough syrup at 7:30 am and was in and out of consciousness until about 2:30. I was awake long enough to see who they added to the First Presidency and the Quorum of the 12.
Why do I have such massive cough syrup you ask?
I have had a cold since Labor Day that just doesn't want to go away. I cough and sneeze and wheeze and creek all day and all night long. John has severe sleep deprivation because of the sounds I make all night. I even bother the cats so they have to jump on the bed and check me out when I'm making such horrible sounds.
I have even even woken myself up coughing once in a while and it really sucks. I hate being sick. The other day my wheezing woke me up from a nap because in my head it sounded like screaming children and it was making me angry.
So here I am now @ 6 pm deciding if I should take more of the syrup and just go back to bed. Why not, John wont be home for another 3 hours at least.
I do feel like I'm sleeping my life away though because I work all week waiting for the weekend and then all I do is sleep so I miss the whole thing anyway.

7:30 PM Sunday

It's sunday night. I didn't go to church today even though I told someone I would. I had dinner with my in laws and have been awake for a total of 7 hours all together. it's been a short day. I'm tired today. but I always am the day after a migraine.
I had a super migraine yesterday. I woke up at 6 am on a Saturday with what felt like an ice pick being hammered into my head. those are no fun. I got out of bed for some meds and thankfully we always keep the migraine medicine in the same spot so I can find it in the dark. Advil Migraine it's my savior on these types of mornings.
The house is totally dark because the sun doesn't come up for another hour and the night light has burnt out. All I can really see are the bright pain flashes behind my right eye. I was trying to get a glass of water to take my 4 pills but my hand couldn't grip the cup and it fell into the sink with old enchilada pans full of water and splattered me all wet and made me cry. I had to drink out of the tap. it's been a long time since I've done that.
Here is the point where I pull an ice pack out of the freezer and put it on my aching head. and crawl back into bed with my honey. He was still sleeping. This is the routine on most migraine days. I finally get to sleep again and slept until noon.
When I got up I had lunch and some more pills and went back to bed. I had so much I should have done yesterday. my house is a mess and my fishes need clean water but some days I just can't function. All in all though I suppose it could be worse.

Weight Loss Wonder

I have lost 36 lbs since 4/09/2007
