November, The Month of Thankfulness

Nov. 1st – I am thankful for friends and family who take my love of Halloween and quirkiness for what it’s worth and love me anyway.

Nov. 2nd – I’m thankful for discount veterinary clinics and the hope of quiet in my house again.

Nov. 3rd – I am thankful for a husband who lets me watch Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle without too much mocking.

Nov. 4th – Feeling very … Bleh, meh, ugh, grr, today. I am very thankful that it is Friday, even if I don’t get to sleep in tomorrow.

Nov. 5th – I am thankful for Musicals that make me smile.

Nov. 6th – I am thankful to be an Auntie today. Even though I can’t have kids of my own I am surrounded by little people who allow me to love them.

Nov. 7th – I am thankful for an extra hour of sleep that helped me to get to work on time.

Nov 8th – I'm thankful for Facebook for hooking me up with old friends, distant cousins, and family who don't live close enough to hug.

Nov. 9th – I am thankful for having a job. I may not like it all the time, but at least I have one.

Nov. 10th – I'm thankful for Pie... even though I don't get to have a piece until very late this evening... Hurrah for Pi Day the 314th day of the year.

Nov. 11th – I am thankful for Veterans. I am thankful for the men and women of the armed forces who give their time, and lives, to help keep me safe and protect the freedoms that I have. I’m thankful for my friends and family, past and present, who have chosen to serve their country.

Nov. 12th – I’m just thankful to be me.

Nov. 13th – I am thankful for my warm bed on lazy snowy Sundays.

Nov. 14th – I'm thankful for good books that stir the imagination and help me believe in the unbelievable.

Nov. 15th – In honor of "I Love to Write Day" I am thankful for my own imagination. I'm thankful that I have the ability to put words to paper and tell the stories that dance through my brain. I'm thankful to be literate and for the people, authors, teachers, and friends that have inspired me to be a writer... even if I'm the only one who ever reads what I write.

Nov. 16th – I'm thankful for the comfort of knowing that death is not the end. I'm thankful for my belief in eternal families and for the knowledge that I will see those who have passed again.

Nov. 17th – I am thankful for my ability to cook. This may not seem that impressive to some, but to others it is quite a feat.

Nov. 18th – I'm thankful for a silly husband that can make me laugh until I cry... even at six-thirty in the morning when I'd rather be sleeping.

Nov. 19th – I'm thankful for my family. Each member is special to me for many reasons. I'm lucky to be a Pears AND an Evans.

Nov. 20th – I'm thankful for naps today. Long ones. In warm spots. Next to someone I love.

Nov. 21st – I’m thankful for relief society sisters who, even though they haven’t seen me for nearly three years, welcome me with open arms.

Nov. 22nd – I'm thankful that ten years ago today my best friend asked me to marry him, and that I said yes.

Nov. 23rd – I’m thankful that 48 years ago today the most awesome television program was released on to screens in the UK ushering in one of the greatest and long running science fiction shows ever. Thank heavens for Doctor Who.

Nov. 24th – I am thankful for time spent with the people I love.

Nov. 25th – I'm thankful for quiet time.

Nov. 26th – I'm thankful for long weekends used for laying around, sleeping in and being able to get thing done in my own time.

Nov. 27th – I am thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ and his teachings. I'm thankful for the person I am because of what I have learned and the examples of Christ I have in my life.

Nov. 28th – I'm thankful that my two best friends also happen to be my sisters.

Nov. 29th – I'm thankful for co-workers who I can laugh with and sometimes call friends.

Nov. 30th – I'm thankful for my health. This last day of November completes the first full month of me not being sick (knock on wood) since July. I'm grateful for the medicines, doctors, hot soups, warm drinks and cozy beds that help me feel better.

Seven things... Strange and little known facts about me:

  1. I prefer my drinks at room temperature – ice makes my teeth hurt. If I’m at a restaurant I MUST have a straw because I can’t drink out of their cups with ice. At the drive thru I order my drink with no ice. Besides, that takes up all the room in your cup and you don’t get as much drink as you should. Every time a member of my family comes to my house and gets a drink they always ask me for ice but I never make any because I don’t use it except for making jello once in a while.
  2. I miss the round “flower garden” that used to be on the south lawn at my parents house. This was a ring of purple and blue Iris’ and the middle often grew little yellow buttercups and those little purple flowers that look like bunches of grapes I don’t know what they’re called but I just planted some in my front yard.) I called this flower garden my “Fairy Ring” and would often sit in the middle of it to play with my orange Elephunky and the Yellow Lion from Voltron. I have recently learned that it used to be a tree.
  3. My three favorite pass-times are Reading, Sleeping, and soaking in the tub. Sometimes I like to combine all 3, but the husband doesn’t like me to fall asleep in the tub. :)
  4. As a little girl I was madly in love with Marty Sanders. There is not much more I can say about this, he was 10 years older then me, and I was just his baby sisters silly friend.
  5. I am terrified at the idea of being a parent. I’m sure this isn’t a revelation to those who are parents because I’m sure that everyone feels this way, but I think I’m a very selfish person and I find it hard to imagine having a child that will take up my nap time, my reading time, my alone time, and my space. I’m afraid of putting a child in the back seat of a car that has a pattern of being rear ended once a year. I hate the idea that I will HAVE to be a working mother and all the time I can’t spend with my babies. I hate the idea of having someone else take care of my kids. I can’t afford daycare and I don’t think my mom should have to watch it when she’s already 68 and dad is 72. The only stay at home moms I’d love and trust enough with my baby are my oldest sister, but she lives in Washington, and my husbands baby sister, but she has cancer and probably wouldn’t want to watch my kids anyway. Too many if, ands, no ways and probablys to comfort my fears.
  6. I love driving in the snow. I’m scared to death of driving in the rain but I’ll take driving in a snow storm any day.
  7. I have an irrational fear of mirrors in the dark. I remember as an elementary school student someone telling me the story of Bloody Mary and how if you stand in front of a mirror in the dark and say her name 3 times she’ll appear... well I that whole idea scares me to death. The rational side of me KNOWS that it’s not true, but the terrified part of me doesn’t want to find out. To this very day I WILL NOT use the bathroom in the dark, and I avert my eyes from other mirrors in dark rooms.

Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and I am at work. I don't remember there being a year since I got a real job when I didn't have to work Christmas Eve unless I had asked for it off in advance... but this year I didn't.

It doesn't even feel like Christmas Eve. I know that it is though, however I need something more. Maybe a little "Christmas Spirit", perhaps a good snow storm, or maybe a family party with Santa as the special guest who has to run because he has a lot of other presents to give out tonight.

I don't know that I will get any of this by the end of the day so instead I'm going to make a list of things about Christmas past and present that make me happy. Here I go:

Watching the red light on top of the mill and pretending that it was Rudolph

Grandma Mc's divinity & peanut brittle

Family parties on Christmas eve

Snow caves at the end of the driveway

Rainbow mouse

Pictures with Santa at Bowman's Market

Orange slices

Peanuts in my stocking that never got eaten by me

Orange Sticks

Clementine's

Watching the news reports to see where Santa was

Waking up early and plugging in the lights

Christmas lights in the dark

Driving up Angel Street & Down Gentile on the way to Grandma's to see all the Christmas lights

Staying up really late helping mom wrap presents

Watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Uncle Lee reciting How the Grinch stole Christmas from memory

Church only lasting an hour when the 25th is on a Sunday

The Kaysville Stake Christmas program

The little tree we had in our bed room just for me and bebo

Sister Ensign's caramel popcorn

The dress Aunt Jane made me one year and all I had to say about it was that there were no pockets. - I think it was polka dot.

Piles of presents

The year I got to be Mary in the primary program at the ward party

Cats in the Christmas Tree

Waking up really early and shaking presents

Having john wake me up at 4 or 5 am asking to open presents

Snooping

The year I had my cousin Spring's name for Christmas and I bought her a glass unicorn figure and she hugged me and thanked me for the gift I don't remember anyone else ever saying thank you for the family name presents.

Knowing all the words to Silent Night and O'Christmas Tree in German

Christmas Concerts in High School

Playing the Bells

Christmas Music in general

Do They Know it's Christmas on the record player - the long version "feed the people, stay alive"

Chipmunks Christmas record

The story of the littlest polar bear

My best friends giant and beautifully flocked Christmas tree

Giving presents to my friends

Getting my Clifford the Big Red Dog as a gift

The little yellow kitten the oldest sister gave me once

Christmas Dances with Jordan Savage and Mark Treu

The lights on Temple Square

Christmas dresses

Laser tag

The year a box of food appeared on our doorstep

Snow on Christmas morning

Getting something you REALLY wanted

Mittens attached together by a string through your coat sleeves

Mom's fur coat

Music boxes with dancing ballerina's

Keith playing Santa at the family party

Christmas sweaters that I always stole from my dad and brothers

Sleeping on the vent with a blanket over my head

Finding the last present in the farthest corner under the tree

Thanksgiving

This Thursday is Thanksgiving. I have always put this Holiday as #2 on my favorite holiday list. So here are just a few things I am thankful for this year:

My New Job.
My Husband.
Our Families.
Being Able to Breathe.
My Cats.
My Home.
My Ford Focus.

What are you thankful for?
